Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
This week, we’ve collated some of our readers’ comments that have been left on recent stories.
On Friday, we published a story about roadworks on Harrogate’s Victoria Avenue lasting until August. This reader had their say.
The roadworks situation in Harrogate is absolutely unbelievable. There seems to be no thought as to how the residents are supposed to get around without being held up somewhere. The roadworks mentioned in this article are a case in point. The road is full of deep potholes and the traffic lights near Station Parade are often not working which is very dangerous. I thought the room Hookstone were supposed to be finished at the end of June, but they’ve been rested only to start again later this month until the end of September. Heavy fines for overrunning and someone having an overview of the impact of the timing of roadworks essential.
Pam Roberts
We also published an article on plans for a new system designed to speed up roadworks by charging companies more to dig up roads. Our readers gave their thoughts on the plan.
Great idea, but let’s not kid ourselves all of these costs will just get levied back on the customers of these utilities – you and me.
Ian Brown
Please, let’s just have pothole free roads, clean visible road furniture, visible road signs clear of trees and bushes, and working traffic lights. Forget the projects, clean the gutters and drains and just get the road system around Harrogate and surrounding areas working properly again.
