Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

The following comments from Stray Ferret readers were left in response to an article about a major housing development in Killinghall, which you can read here.

As if there isn't enough housing in Killinghall already. More congestion in the area and where are all the essential amenities/services to support this unwanted increase. If this level of increase is required it is about time a new town development is considered with all the planned amenities to support it.

Barry

Not overwhelm them, drown them. Talking about mobility hubs will not stop people using cars. If they buy them, they are going to use them. But try getting that through to those wasting public money on such schemes.

William Morritt

I'm in full support if the development addresses the social housing needs of the town and developer provides upfront funding for additional educational provision, a doctors surgery and a new hospital wing, upgraded waste water facilities, a decent cycle network, and a tram/underground system (our roads are full).

David Farmer

Clarity needed over recycling permits

Stray Ferret readers had their say this week on an article about a booking system for recycling centres moving a step closer. You can read the full story here.

We own a van for leisure pursuits, we use it to transport leaves grass etc to the tip. We are not a business but soon we will be limited to 12 visits a year. We have a large garden so have several large builder type bags full at one go, the grass is cut regularly so 12 visits a year does not touch it. I say again not everyone with a ‘commercial type vehicle’ is a business or fills it to the rafters to go to the local tip.

Tracey Jackson

North Yorkshire Council really ought to clarify right now, to alleviate the concerns of those residents who live in North Yorkshire and pay council tax to the council, but whose vehicle is registered somewhere else for whatever reason (e.g. company car, leased etc), how this new system will work for them.

Christopher Smith
