Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

This week, we’ve collated some of our readers’ comments that have been left on a recent story.

Last week, we published an article looking at what has happened to Harrogate’s missing serpent benches. Here is what our readers had to say.

Pat Marsh was pursuing this whilst still councillor. In particular the two benches which have disappeared on Slingsby Walk near St Aidan’s. There is now a long stretch where people who need seating can’t sit for a rest and enjoy the Stray. Nothing done though and must be two years now.

Margaret Smith

A nonentity of a response from the North Yorkshire representative. Is that the best he can do? At least say “we will programme the work” or “we are seeing if we can put funding together “ or “we have no money”. What we have from North Yorkshire is a string of platitudes. Hopeless PR that demonstrates a need for training.

Martin Weeks

The vandalism of seven benches in the Pinewoods area was reported to the council in June 2023.
