Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.
It is good to see the Valley Gardens and Harrogate town centre looking very attractive with well-tended flower beds, but what about the pavements in residential areas?!
The photo attached is typical of the lack of care shown to those residents who pay a large amount of council tax.

The council should be looking after its residents, not just the visitors.

Does nobody realise that the reason that shops and businesses in Harrogate and elsewhere are closing down is because they are not getting the custom that they require?
Why? Because you can’t go anywhere these days without having to pay exorbitant parking fees and fines.
Therefore, few people shop in town these days – instead they go, as I do, to out-of-town supermarkets and superstores, where the parking is free.
Stop parking fees, and people will return – and everyone can carry on with their businesses.
Other towns have adopted this philosophy and it’s made a massive difference.
Come on Harrogate council, is there no one there that thinks outside the box?
