Readers’ Letters is a free weekly column giving you the chance to have your say on issues affecting the Harrogate district. It is an opinion column and does not reflect the views of the Stray Ferret. Send your views to letters@thestrayferret.co.uk.

This week, we have collated some readers’ comments left on recent stories.

This week, readers have had their say on plans to lose 88% of parking spaces on Harrogate's Station Parade as part of sweeping town centre changes.

Council says ‘let’s talk money’ about spending cuts. Just cancel the town centre demolition and they can save over £14 million.

Andrew Ferguson

Don't forget that this lower part of Station Parade will be one way, making Commercial Street the only route to take.

Keith Taylor

£14 million or 14 pence if the result is useless for visitors on foot; on cycle; in car. It totally ignores the fact that the disabled unfriendly obstructive bus station determines absolutely everything now and proposed. Old maps prove that at least 2 metres of Our highway was given to the bus station in order that buses could manoeuvre into the 13 bus bays. Our donated ‘lost’bus station pavement and roadway not only obstructs our free movement but prevents good Station Gateway design. Who cares? No one it appears. To add even more insult the 13 unlucky bus bays all have minute 1 m access paths to every bus door all totally useless for disabled folk who cannot negotiate the 90 degree access and ramp to access or egress any bus. Who cares? No one it appears.

Christopher Dunn

‘Best way to increase energy bills is to make climate more chaotic’

The quickest, easiest and most cost effective way to cut your energy bill is to buy a battery and draw down energy at 2am when it is dirt cheap. The most certain way to put up energy costs is to listen to a party funded by fossil fuel lobbyists who think it is fine to carry on making the climate more chaotic. Drill baby drill means burn baby burn and that comes at a huge cost both financially and environmentally.

Cllr Andy Brown, Green Party councillor for Aire Valley on North Yorkshire Council
