A regional diving competition will take place in Harrogate this weekend.
Swim England’s North East Regional Diving Championships will come to the Harrogate Hydro on Sunday (January 18).
Also known as the Syd Boothroyd Diving Grand Prix, more than 100 divers from across the North East region will compete in 20 events at the Hydro, spanning five age groups.
The event will last from 9am to 6pm. The Hydro will remain open to the public during the tournament.
The championships showcase diving talent from across the region. Leeds Diving Club’s communications officer, Mark Dorey, told the Stray Ferret that 14-year-old Felix Wheeler would be one to watch.
The competition represents an important step on the competitive pathway, with routes to National Age Group and Junior Elite National Championships available for top performers.
The Harrogate Hydro is where British Olympic diver Jack Laugher began his career.
Becky Simmonds, competition Ooganiser, said:
The Syd Boothroyd Championships are a major organisational effort and a real showcase of the depth of diving talent across the North East Region. Bringing so many athletes, volunteers and officials together across two venues takes careful planning, and it creates a high-quality competitive environment where divers can perform at their best and work towards qualifying scores.
Spectators, parents and supporters can follow results throughout the day via Dive Recorder, with live scoring available during competition.
