Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the car parks at Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs, police have said.

A North Yorkshire Police statement last night (February 20) said the site manager at the car parks had reported criminal damage.

The statement added:

We are informed that the car parks were repeatedly targeted and vandalised by unknown suspects who have caused thousands of pounds worth of damages to the signage and equipment fitted on site.

We are actively investigating these reports but we do need your help to find those responsible.

No further information about the incidents was released.

Fewston and Swinsty are situated alongside each other in the Washburn valley. Owned by Yorkshire Water, they are popular for recreational use, including dog walking, running and walking.

Yorkshire Water introduced parking charges at the car parks last year. The new cameras installed as part of this were stolen shortly afterwards.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is urged to contact the police, quoting crime reference 12250022012.
