Ripon has plenty to talk about when it comes to its past, but what does the future hold for the City of the Dales?

With Ripon’s population set to grow in the longer term, through the 1,300-home Clotherholme scheme and the Fountains Walk development of 390 dwellings at West Lane, North Yorkshire Council is in the process of consulting with a broad base of interested parties on an evolving investment plan covering the next five to 10 years.

This afternoon (Monday) the first of two initial drop-in sessions was held at Ripon Library and on Friday, between 10.30am and 12.30pm, members of the North Yorkshire Communities Team will be back at the library to engage with members of the public.

Attendees will be encouraged to complete a questionnaire, covering four themes: Sustainable Settlements, Strengthening Social and Personal Wellbeing, Enabling Enterprise and Celebrating Heritage while Promoting Growth.

Sharon Hudson, area manager for the communities team, told the Stray Ferret:

We are at the start of a six-month programme of consultation and we hope that as many people as possible take part.

Those who are unable to visit the library are invited to complete our online survey, which can be found at northyorks.gov.uk/consultations.

The closing date for submissions is October 31.

The council is also running an online survey on this plan, which can be completed here. The survey closes on October 24.

The next drop-in session will be held at Ripin Library on Friday between 10.30am and 12.30pm

A more suitable time of day

Asked by the Stray Ferret why today's drop-in session and the one to be staged on Friday are being held at times of the day when many Ripon citizens are unable to attend, Ms Hudson said:

We wiill aim to hold any future sessions for the public during the evenings and on Saturdays.
