Ripley Store – the home of Ripley’s “world famous” ice cream – is to leave its familiar shop on the village’s main street and move into new premises across the road.
The business will still trade from its usual location until the end of September, but owner Jon Peters says he hopes to open on the new site, which was formerly home to gin distiller Harrogate Tipple, on October 1, with no interruption to service.
Mr Peters, who runs the business with wife Kirsty and their two daughters, told the Stray Ferret:
We only had a couple of years left on the lease, and when the Ripley Estate went on the market in November, we didn’t know if the new owner would be willing to extend it.
So when the old distillery came up for sale, we decided to make the move.
The shop's ice cream parlour will be expanded.
At 4,000 square feet, the premises are a lot bigger than the old ones, and Mr Peters said it would give the business a chance to grow.
He said:
We’re going to build on what we’ve got, but with a few improvements. There’ll be more seating indoors and outdoors, and we’ll have space for more flavours of ice cream, as well as a coffee shop.
We hope to get an alcohol licence too, so maybe next year we'll look at serving drinks and perhaps offering pizzas or barbecue food.
It just gives us the freedom to explore more options – although we need to be careful we don't step on anyone else's toes in the village.
