    Cafe culture returns to Kirkgate.

Ripon will be buzzing this weekend for its Big Family Weekend.

The weekend marks the culmination of Ripon Theatre Festival, which started on July 5 and features about 150 events.

On Saturday, a combination of street theatre, circus, dance, magic, and fun will be staged at Market Place, Minster Gardens, outside Ripon Cathedral and on Kirkgate.

A Kirkgate Street Party, presented in collaboration with Ripon Open Mic Night, will run from 4pm to 8pm.

Visitors will have the chance to eat or drink al fresco on one of the district's most historic streets while listening to music.

Sunday will see events in Spa Gardens and Market Place, including a Little Bird Artisan Market.

The weekend will feature a total of 28 community performers from all over the region, including Punch and Judy, featuring traditional hand-carved wooden puppets.

A detailed timetable of all the performances and activities can be found on the Ripon Theatre Festival website, here for Saturday and here for Sunday.

    Pig Cup

On Sunday, a new charity football tournament involving Ripon businesses, the Pig Cup, will kick off at Ripon City FC.

Hosted by The Portly Pig, the event will see 16 business teams take part in a six-a-side football tournament.

The Carabao Cup, the English Football League 2 play-off cup and the EFL Trophy will be displayed at the ground

All proceeds will go to support two local men’s mental health charities, Andy’s Man Club Ripon and Ripon Men’s Shed.

Visitors can enjoy food and drink while enjoying the game.
