Ripon death prompts alcoholism fundraiser

The son of a Ripon woman who was well known for her community work has set up a fundraising appeal following her death.
Annette Wilson, who died on September 19, volunteered for a wide range of roles in the city.
Latterly, she was a moderator on the Facebook page This is Ripon and Tesco’s community champion.
Now her son Jack Wilson has launched an appeal on the fundraising website gofundme to raise £900 for Nacoa, a charity that supports people affected by their parent or parents’ drinking.
Jak said he hoped to help other families receive the support they need, or help people feel a little less alone.
He added:
Her journey with alcohol addiction was extremely difficult. Not only for her, but for our family who stood by her and supported her for many years.
It’s hard to imagine the lasting impact addiction has on those whose loved ones are going through it.
This is a topic that for me, hits close to home after watching my mum struggle for so many years.
I’d like to turn something heartbreaking in to something positive.
Annette’s death led to numerous tributes, with many praising her community efforts and generous nature.
