Ripon man fined after assault in pizzeria
A Ripon man has been fined after an assault in a pizza restaurant.
Christopher Dalton, 43, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (June 25) where he spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
Dalton, of Beech Road, admitted one count of assault by beating on Westgate in Ripon on May 25 this year.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, said the named victim was walking down Westgate when he saw Dalton outside a pizzeria.
The court heard there had been a “long standing issue” between the two men and Dalton had threatened to “batter” the named victim before trying to get him to go down a ginnel.
However, the victim went inside the pizzeria instead.
Ms Tyrer said Dalton then walked in after him and punched him in the side of the mouth.
Staff at the pizzeria intervened and kicked Dalton out of the restaurant, the prosecutor added.

He then kept walking up and down Westgate. Police were called and he was arrested.
Police interviewed Dalton, but he gave no comment to officer’s questions.
Ms Tyrer said Dalton had previous convictions, but had no been before the courts since 2022.
Michelle Stewart, defending, said the incident was “unfortunate” and that there had been a long-standing issue between the two men.
Ms Stewart said the assault was a “spur of the moment” incident and that Dalton had “turned his life around” since he was last before the court.
Magistrates fined Dalton £120 and ordered him to pay £100 in compensation to the victim.
He was also ordered to pay a £48 victims’ surcharge and £85 in court costs.
