John Bell.

A Ripon man has completed a two-year labour of love by publishing his first book.

John Bell, who is well-known in the city with his ties to Ripon Rugby Club and the historical society, has published “I’ll Tell You What Annoys Me” — which he said was always on his bucket list.

Described as “a humorous gem of a book” which can be purchased for the price of a pint of Guinness, the book charts Mr Bell’s “many niggles and grumbles”.

Mr Bell, 82, said it took him two years to write the book and the idea for it came from lively conversations in the rugby club with friends.

A synopsis for the book says:

While you won’t find him out on the field these days, he can often be found in the clubhouse with the rest of “The Friday Gang”, discussing the week’s little annoyances.

It was during these lively conversations that the idea for the book was born.

The 42-page book, which was published by Austin Macauley Publishers, is available from Amazon Books and Waterstones.
