.Councillor Jackie Crozier is set to be elected as the next mayor of Ripon at the city council's annual meeting this evening (Wednesday).
The mayor-making ceremony in Ripon Town Hall, which begins at 6pm, will see Cllr Crozier follow in the footsteps of Hugh Ripley, who became the first mayor of the ancient city in 1605.
She takes over the chain of office from Councillor Sid Hawke, who has served as mayor for three consecutive terms.
Born and educated in Ripon, Cllr Crozier has deep roots in the community, including her parents’ management of the historic Fleece public house.
After a successful career in the events industry, which saw her serving in a number of roles, including festival director of Manchester Pride, she returned to Ripon in 2018 and now owns and runs the award-winning Little Bird Artisan Markets.
Cllr Crozier, who was elected to the city council in 2022 as a member for the Spa Ward, will be accompanied by her consort, Lorna Fassnidge, during her mayoral year.
When announced as mayor-elect in February, she said:
I am delighted to represent the city I was born and bred in as mayor and I look forward to championing our great city and being an advocate for our community.
During her tenure, Cllr Crozier will focus on fundraising for St Michael’s Hospice, who looked after her mum, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. She has previously helped raise more than £50,000 for various charities.
Following this evening's mayor-making ceremony, the mayor’s installation service will be held at Ripon Cathedral at 10.30 on Sunday morning (May 11).
