Sir Julian Smith donned a baseball cap and apron to make cheeseburgers on a visit to McDonald’s in Ripon.
The Conservative MP for Skipton and Ripon, who is more used to wearing suits in the corridors of power, met staff and new franchisee, Tom Atherton.
During a tour of the restaurant on Harrogate Road, Sir Julian even had a go at preparing a £1.79 burger. He said: “I can confirm that making a cheeseburger is harder than it looks.”
It is not known which customer ate the MP-prepared meal.
Sir Julian discussed the current business environment, career progression, the government’s Employment Rights Bill and the importance of supporting workers and employers.
He said:
It was great to visit McDonald’s Ripon and meet Tom and members of the Ripon team. I was pleased to learn more about the jobs and training opportunities they offer for local people, and discuss the importance of getting employment rights balanced for both employees and employers. I will be taking up their concerns in Parliament.
