Ripon’s one and only nightclub will close its doors this weekend.
Wonderland, on North Street, said on social media on Friday last week (July 26) the club would close on Sunday, August 3.
All the good memories made dancing in Wonderland will be “cherished forever”, the post said, adding:
Come and join us this weekend and next weekend to have our final drinks and say our final goodbyes.
But hope is not lost for Ripon's late night revellers, as new owners are set to take on the nightclub and the site is set for an extensive refurbishment.
The Stray Ferret reported on the move in June, when owner Jenk Pepec said the new nightclub will “cater for everyone” and “attract a different clientele to Wonderland”.
He told the Stray Ferret the bar will be open five days a week and host gigs, quizzes and Latin dance classes on weekdays.
It will return as a nightclub from Thursday to Sunday, Mr Pepec added.
He also said:
Ripon needs something to do, sometimes I feel old, like there is nothing for me to do in Ripon and other people will feel the same. That’s why we will offer more than just a place where people can get drunk in the dark.
At the same time Ripon has a large young community and DeFacto will provide a safe, clean environment for them.
Mr Pepec revealed the cost of the makeover had already exceeded £60,000, as changes to the toilets, staircase and VIP lounge were underway.
DeFacto’s official opening date has not yet been announced, but the company shared on Facebook it expects doors to open by late August.
