Ella Heywood, 11.

Dear Reader, this article is free to read. But please could we ask you to support independent local journalism at the Stray Ferret by subscribing for as little as 14p per day? You can do so here.

A Ripon pub is to hold a fundraiser to raise money for a young girl who is set to undergo treatment for cancer.

Ella Heywood was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on April 1 and faces two years of chemotherapy and prolonged treatment.

Her parents Laura and Steven, who live in Ripon, are currently taking it in turns to visit Ella at Leeds General Infirmary, while also looking after their son Mason.

In a bid to raise funds for the family to help them through the treatment, the Black Swan at Ripon is set to hold a fundraising campaign, including a community raffle on Saturday (April 18).

Martin Paterson, who set up the GoFundMe page for the family, said:

With Steven dedicating 25 years to the British Army and just retired, he is currently unemployed and was due to start work but been put on hold due to Ella needing him to be there in hospital. I’m just asking here if we can all chip together to support the family in this hard time and show them that they have loved ones around them.

The raffle will be held at the Black Swan on Saturday, April 18, which will include a superhero and villains themed fancy dress and prizes donated by local businesses.

Those who wish to purchase a ticket can buy them from the pub. All proceeds will go towards Ella and her family.

You can donate to Ella's GoFundMe page here.
