Ripon electors voted by 317 to 271 against mayor Barbara Brodigan in a vote of confidence today.
A total of 53% voted 'no' to the question: ‘Do you have confidence in Councillor Barbara Brodigan?’, compared with 47% who voted 'yes'.
The turnout for the parish poll was just 4.66%.
The poll was proposed by resident Brian McHugh at a parish meeting this month.
It was triggered when 13 people — three more than the required 10 — supported Mr McHugh’s proposal at the meeting.
The result in non-binding, and Cllr Brodigan said afterwards she would continue as mayor and that the low turnout indicated a high level of ambivalence.
The result was declared at Harrogate Road Methodist Church
We will have further reaction soon.
