A primary school near Boroughbridge is celebrating after government inspectors found pupils are thriving both in and out of the classroom.
Ofsted said Roecliffe CofE Primary School delivers the expected standard across all areas, and awarded it a strong rating for personal development.
Inspectors, who visited the 77-pupil school in January, said it provides a warm and inclusive environment for pupils to develop and described its personal development provision as “carefully and deliberately planned”.
They added that pupils achieve well in core subjects and benefit from an ambitious and well-structured curriculum.
Staff were praised for their strong subject knowledge, high expectations and effective use of assessment.
Personal development was identified as a standout strength, with pupils given a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom, including leadership roles, clubs and community projects.
Children contribute meaningfully to the local area through activities such as care home visits and environmental work, the report added.
The report said:
Pupils are proud to belong to a small, friendly community where ‘everyone knows everyone’. New pupils settle quickly and feel honoured to join the school. They enjoy making new friends. The school’s Christian ethos and values of ‘faith, courage and love’ are woven through daily life and shape the way pupils learn and behave.
Leaders and governors were praised for their clear vision and commitment to continuous improvement.
The school belongs to Leeds Diocesan Learning Trust.
Headteacher Sarah Daggett said:
This report is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community. Our staff work with enthusiasm and commitment to provide the best possible opportunities and experiences for all pupils at our warm and welcoming school.
Nick Baird, chair of governors, added:
We are delighted with the outcome, particularly the recognition of the broad and varied personal development opportunities offered at Roecliffe to all children.
The report also noted some areas where the school could further strengthen consistency in how the curriculum is delivered, as it looks to build on its current standards.
