Pateley Bridge will host two major charity walking and running events within six days in May.

The Nidderdale Charity Walk and Run, organised by the Rotary Club of Harrogate, has raised more than £1 million over 30 years.

The 32nd event, on Sunday, May 17, includes six options for walkers and runners of about four, eight, 15, 18, 22 and 26 miles.

The routes all start from Pateley Bridge Scout Hall and head up Nidderdale towards, and for many beyond, Lofthouse.

Entry fees go to good causes, and dozens of local charities encourage people to take part to raise money for them.

Nidderdale 10k

Less than a week later the Run Nidderdale 10K, one of the most scenic but demanding races on the local race calendar, will take place on Saturday, May 23.

Organised by Nidderdale Fell & Trail, the trail race begins and ends at Nidderdale Showground in Pateley Bridge.

The event attracts experienced trail runners as well as newcomers looking for an introduction to off-road racing.

Race director Caroline Ball said:

We’re really excited to be hosting the event again this year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for runners to experience the beauty of Nidderdale whilst also supporting two charities that mean a lot to our club and the wider community.

We’d love to see as many people as possible come along, whether that’s to take part or to support on the day.

Around two-thirds of race profits will be donated to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

The remaining funds will be reinvested into the club to support training opportunities, community outreach, and social activities, helping to grow participation in running across Nidderdale and the surrounding areas.
