Runners will embark on some incredible endurance events in and around Nidderdale this weekend — including a 111-mile route.

Punk Panther, which organises trail races and ultra-marathons, has organised the events as part of a Nidderdale dark skies event.

Some 150 athletes will descend on Pateley Bridge to push themselves to the limit.

The routes are centred on the Nidderdale Way and will take runners to locations such as Ripley Castle, Brimham Rocks, How Stean Gorge and Gouthwaite Reservoir.

Events begin at 7am tomorrow (October 19) and there are 28, 55, 83 and 111-mile options. Registration takes place at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall.

Runners have 36 hours to complete the insane 111-mile route. The record currently stands at 23.5 hours.

The second event tomorrow, which begins at 5pm so competitors can run under the stars, is a trail marathon on the 55-mile Nidderdale Way, along the loop to Scar House Reservoir.

All runners will have trackers and headtorches for their safety and will have guide runners if requested.

Sunday's events, which begin at 8am from the scout hut, will see runners take part in events over either 10km, or 13, 20 and 26.2 miles.

This is the third time Punk Panther has held races across the dark skies events.

Ryk Downes, race director at Punk Panther said:

Some people love running in the dark and Nidderdale is a really amazing dark skies area, there is a fantastic display of stars especially at Scarhouse.

We want everyone this weekend to enjoy, do their best, and hopefully finish their race and I am looking forward to seeing everyone afterwards.

I would encourage anyone taking part to take photos and just take it all in and make memories to last a lifetime. The previous events have been really amazing.

Entries for the ultra-marathons are now closed.
