Trains have resumed at Knaresborough after a van collided with a signal box and got stuck on the town's level crossing this morning.
All of rail operator Northern's services between Leeds and York via Harrogate were severely affected by the incident. Replacement buses were deployed for passengers after nine train services were fully cancelled, 14 were partially cancelled and 11 were delayed.
Network Rail sent this update shortly before 11am:
"Shortly after 6.30am today, a vehicle crashed through the level crossing barrier at Knaresborough, hitting the signal box.
"We're supporting emergency services at the scene, and the vehicle was able to be removed by 8.30am.
"Lines are now open, with one train per hour in each direction. Passengers are advised to check details of their journey with National Rail Enquires or their train operators before travelling."
Network Rail later confirmed there was no damage to the track itself and temporary fencing was erected. The remaining damage is to be addressed at a time which will cause the least disruption to services, a spokesperson told us.
The Stray Ferret visited the scene this morning.
Network Rail staff on site at about 9am.
It is unclear how the vehicle ended up on the rail line but nobody has been injured.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said:
Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to the incident, and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 79 of 10 July.
The organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show have warned people travelling by train to the event to expect delays.
