The Harrogate company behind a well-known gin range has been sold to a new owner.

The Stray Ferret reported in January that Spirit of Harrogate Limited, which owns Slingsby Gin, was to enter administration.

Today, administrators Lewis Business Recovery and Insolvency confirmed that the company had been rescued from administration in a pre-packaged deal.

The new owner, Brightside Spirits Ltd, has acquired the Slingsby brand and product range and had preserved two jobs.

However, three jobs have been lost and the shop on Montpellier Parade has permanently closed.

Customers can still buy products online.

Marcus Black and Michael Carthy, co-founders of Spirit of Harrogate, said:

We are pleased that the brand will continue and that some of our colleagues will support the new owners in their future journey with Slingsby.

We wish them all every success and are proud that Slingsby will still be available to its loyal and longstanding customers.

Brightside Spirits Ltd was incorporated on March 11 this year at an address in Harrogate, according to Companies House.

Chris Williams, the sole director, said:

As a local couple, we are delighted to be part of bringing this much-loved gin back to life. As long-time supporters of independent Yorkshire producers, we couldn’t stand by and watch a brand with such strong heritage potentially disappear. When the opportunity arose to acquire the business out of administration, we knew we had a responsibility, not just to the product, but to the community that has championed it from the very beginning.

Our immediate focus is on stabilising the business, rebuilding production, and ensuring that the outstanding quality and character of Slingsby remain at the heart of everything we do. Over the coming months, we will be investing in the brand, strengthening local partnerships, and exploring new ways to celebrate the craftsmanship that made this gin so special.

Spirit of Harrogate Ltd, which was founded in 2014, was placed in administration on March 18.

Matthew Russell and Gareth Lewis, both of Lewis Business Recovery & Insolvency, were appointed Joint Administrators.

Mr Lewis said the company had struggled with rising costs and difficult trading conditions.
