A large snake was found in a residential area of Knaresborough on Saturday (August 24).
Knaresborough Exotic Rescue Centre, a not-for-profit organisation which rescues exotic animals, and police officers were called to a house in the town following reports of a snake in the garden.
The rescue centre shared the news in a social media post, which did not confirm the species of snake.
The post added the police have “numbers on file” for anyone that spots a snake or reptile in the local area, and urged the owner of the snake to get in touch. You can also contact the rescue centre by emailing krescue@hotmail.co.uk.
The Stray Ferret contacted Knaresborough Exotic Rescue Centre and North Yorkshire Police for more information, but we did not receive a response at the time of publication.
But this is not the first time the Stray Ferret has reported on a snake in the local area. Just last month, a cocker spaniel named Ella was bitten by an adder at Thruscross Reservoir.
Ella's owner rushed her to Forest House Vets at the time, where she was given a shot of anti-venom. The practice later said on social media:
Adder bites are rare but more likely on cooler days, when the snakes are lethargic and slower to move out of the way of inquisitive dogs.
The incident sparked concern among readers at the time, which prompted the Stray Ferret to look into the number of snakes reported in the Harrogate district.
