Police deployed stingers in the early hours of yesterday morning to end a high speed chase that started in Ripon.
According to a North Yorkshire Police statement today, officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the city at about 3.30am after it had been driven erratically and went through red lights. But instead of stopping, the driver fled at high speed.
The ensuing pursuit lasted almost 30 minutes and covered "multiple areas", the statement said. The police refused to give further details when asked by the Stray Ferret.
The statement said:
Recognising the danger posed to our communities, officers immediately initiated a pursuit, coordinating closely with colleagues from across the force.
The pursuit covered significant ground, but thanks to the swift response of all involved, and successful deployment of two stingers, the vehicle was brought to a safe stop.
A 41-year-old man from Middlesborough was arrested and charged with multiple driving offences.
He appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced this month.
The force added:
We hope this sends a clear message to those intent on carrying our criminality in our county that we will take decisive action to stop them in their tracks.
And our communities can rest assured knowing that those who endanger others will be held accountable.
