The countdown is now on for the Stray Ferret Business Awards 2025, sponsored by Prosperis, and we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the fantastic finalists, shortlisted across each of the 10 categories.

Tickets are now available to buy for the glittering black tie event, which will take place at The Pavilions in Harrogate on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Let's meet and find out more about the finalists for Dynamic Leader, sponsored by Impulse Decisions.

Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID

Ever since he joined over four years ago, Matthew has been pivotal to the organisation’s success in Harrogate, supporting it with the introduction of dozens of new events, campaigns and services.

According to the BID's submission, 'his dynamic style, ideas, experiences and knowledge have had a highly positive impact on not just the BID but Harrogate as whole'.

Whether it’s helping to build a dog park for the Harrogate Dog Show, a stage for the Celebration of Fashion or unique displays for the Floral Summer of Celebration, Matthew doesn’t shy away from any task and is always available to support the team and offer his valuable insight.

Hazel Haas, Knaresborough Market

The entry for Hazel Haas MBE recognises her 'outstanding contribution to the Knaresborough Market team' throughout the years, especially for going 'above and beyond' to ensure the market was rescheduled successfully in 2024.

The team faced a major challenge when severe weather forced the cancellation of the Christmas market but through Hazel's leadership the event was moved to another date at extremely short notice.

This involved coordinating with over 70 stallholders, local authorities, and other service providers to ensure a seamless transition, demonstrating an ability to adapt under pressure and maintain clear communication with the team, authorities and wider community.

Dynamic Leader winner 2024: Alastair Taylor, NYnet.

Marc Wise, Live For Today

Praised by the team at Live For Today for his 'exemplary leadership and visionary thinking', co-founder and business development director Marc White has been integral to the company's ongoing success.

Two examples of this dedication in practice would be the acquisition of the Harrogate Climbing Wall and a new partnership with Swinton Estate, both achieved in 2024 and driven by Marc's desire for innovation and growth.

The team also recognise that his 'infectious positivity' helps to create a strong culture of optimism and resilience, in which staff feel supported.

Sarah Glynn, Visiting Angels

Sarah has exemplified outstanding leadership at Visiting Angels North Yorkshire West, driving significant positive change in the way the business operates through her dynamic and proactive style.

One of Sarah’s key achievements has been her ability to streamline recruitment and onboarding processes. Recognising the challenges of maintaining high-quality staff, Sarah introduced a rigorous screening process and structured training programs, ensuring that all carers are well-prepared and confident in their role.

Since these initiatives have been introduced, carer retention has increased by 40 percent, which the team feels is 'a testament to the supportive environment' she has cultivated.

Simon Wade, Grantham Arms

Since 2018 Simon has been transforming the local hospitality scene, taking on not only the Grantham Arms, but also the Fox and Hounds, Tap on the Tutt and Blue Bell Inn.

The entry for the award noted that he 'is not afraid to take risks, and he embraces failures as learning opportunities, which further exemplifies his exceptional leadership qualities'.

Starting out with just 10 staff members when he first took on the Grantham Arms, Simon now employs over 70 across his venues and has been praised for fostering an environment where his team members can develop their skills and succeed alongside him.

Don't miss out

Tickets are now available for the awards evening, which takes place on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
