The countdown is now on for the Stray Ferret Business Awards 2025, sponsored by Prosperis, and we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the fantastic finalists, shortlisted across each of the 10 categories.

Tickets are now available to buy for the glittering black tie event, which will take place at The Pavilions in Harrogate on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Let's meet and find out more about the finalists for the Sustainable Business Award.

Harrogate Community Radio

Harrogate Community Radio has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to sustainability, embedding eco-friendly practices into its operations from the start.

Greener policies include working remotely to eliminate the need for a physical studio and its associated energy demands, carbon offsetting website operations by working with Tree-Nation and sponsoring tree planting with every purchase from its online shop.

Harrogate Community Radio also remains committed to exploring and adopting new innovations that decrease their environmental impact as technology evolves.

Horticap

According to Horticap's submission, it feels a great responsibility 'as a charity...to be more sustainable. It's great for the environment and it saves money too; a no nonsense win-win'.

It achieves this in a number of ways; being one of the first places in the area to install a wind turbine, adding 60 solar panels to its roof, using an air source heater and collecting rainwater to reuse.

Horticap has also set up s network of organisations in the area that contact the charity before they throw anything away, so that exchanges between local charities and businesses can take place easily, in order to repurpose and reduce waste.

Sustainable Business winner 2024 (Small Business): Number Thirteen.

Lightwater Quarries

Lightwater Quarries has always had sustainability at the heart of its values, investing in a carbon offsetting programe which includes investment in regenerative agriculture and the planting and management of approximately 250,000 trees.

14 years ago it built two solar arrays, which in turn produce 45 percent of the energy required for Lightwater Valley Theme Park, and 80 percent of the energy for the Lightwater Quarries site.

Over the last 12 months, it switched all our diesel usage to HVO Fuel - which further reduces its carbon footprint on fuel usage - and non-commercial vehicles are either hybrid or 100 percent electric.

Don't miss out

Tickets are now available for the awards evening, which takes place on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Book yours here and join the Stray Ferret and other local businesses for a night filled with recognition, networking, and fun.
