Here are the answers to this week's Sunday Picture Quiz. How well did you do?

aldwarktollbridge-quizpic

1. Aldwark Toll Bridge

The privately-owned Aldwark Toll Bridge is the only remaining toll bridge in Yorkshire, and the only road crossing of the River Ure between Boroughbridge and York.

Last summer, the fee to cross it was raised, but only after local opposition to the rise reached such a pitch that a public inquiry was held.

In the event, the Secretary of State for Transport agreed with the bridge's owner, the Westwick Group, that the bridge's financial situation was not sustainable and that the fee should rise to cover its maintenance costs.

The toll, which is now set at £1 per crossing, saves road-users a 22-mile detour to get to the far side.

2. Mural, Harrogate

This striking set of images adorns the wall of The Factory, which is home to high-end interiors retailer Poliform North, part of The Stephen Neall Group.

They are the work of St Albans-based artist Morgan Howell, who is best known for his giant, ultra-realistic paintings of classic seven-inch singles.

The records depicted on the wall overlooking the railway tracks near Station Bridge are: Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks; Pictures of Matchstick Men by Status Quo; See Emily Play by Pink Floyd; A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procul Harum; MacArthur Park by Richard Harris; Tin Soldier by Small Faces; Heroes and Villains by the Beach Boys; and Penny Lane by The Beatles.

These images are the latest in a series of occupants of The Factory's alcoves. Before Howell's works, the building featured My Favourite Record Shop, a multi-coloured mural by Yorkshire artist Pete McKee, unveiled in late 2014.

Prior to that, the spaces were taken by images commissioned by The Stephen Neall Group as part of its celebrations to mark the 2014 Grand Départ of the Tour de France. The company auctioned them off for charity in 2015, raising £50,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and cycling charity The Dave Rayner Trust Fund.

3. Church of St John the Baptist, Kirk Hammerton

This is one of the oldest churches in Yorkshire, with a tower dating from around 950 and a Lady Chapel that is even older.

It was originally the only church in England to be dedicated to St Quentin, and when it was rededicated to St John the Baptist is not known.

Incredibly, this Anglo-Saxon marvel may not even be the first place of worship on the site. Two years ago, local history and archaeology enthusiast Tony Hunt discovered what appears to be a previously undiscovered neolithic henge lying beneath the village of Kirk Hammerton.

If the discovery is confirmed, it may turn out that the site has been used for religious purposes for 4,500 years.

4. The stage at Harrogate Theatre

An easy one to end with. The stage in this photo looks remarkably compact, but it's punched above its weight over the years.

Since the theatre first opened in 1900, its boards have been trodden by actors Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Bernhardt, Trevor Howard and Ben Kingsley, as well as performers including David Bowie, Ken Dodd, Eddie Izzard and Graham Norton.

You can find out who's performing now on the Harrogate Theatre website.
