Teacher to bring community choir to Knaresborough and Harrogate

A local school teacher is to bring her Poppleton choir to Knaresborough and Harrogate, in a bid to bring people from all walks of life together.
Liz Sawyer, founder of Singing Communities, said:
There is something for everyone. Whether you sing all the time, haven’t sung since school, or just love a good tune, you’re invited. There are no auditions and no pressure. Just some great songs, good company and the joy of singing together.
The choir sings a wide variety of music, from pop and musical to classical and world – and in two or three voice parts.
The choir in Poppleton already gets rave reviews, with the members praising the welcoming atmosphere and sharing how they’ve made new friends through joining.
Claire, a member of the choir, said:
It’s about so much more than just singing - it’s a real community where friendships have developed and there’s always plenty of fun and laughter. No matter what kind of day you’ve had, or what kind of mood you’re in when you arrive, you always leave feeling better, with a smile on your face. Singing together is such a great feeling, but it’s the people and the sense of belonging that make it really special.
Ms Sawyer is an experienced choral director, having conducted choirs for over 25 years. As well a being a primary and secondary school music teacher, currently at Killinghall Primary School, she has conducted school choirs and the Liverpool Philharmonic training choir.
The new choirs are set to launch on September 9 and run every Wednesday, with the Knaresborough choir being held at 10.15am at Calcutt & Forest Moor Village Hall and the Harrogate choir at 1.15pm at the Kairos Church.
