A Harrogate woman has made it her mission to empower those going through the menopause, advocating for a transparent and supportive approach to the process.
It is estimated there are 13 million perimenopausal or post menopausal women in the UK – that’s equivalent to a third of the female population.
Despite it being such a commonly shared experience, understanding and conversation around the subject can be limited, marred with misinformation and stigma.
For Kate Hodson, it was an incredibly confusing and lonely period of time – and now she’s making sure that others have the tools to tackle the menopause head on, and to embrace the next chapter of their lives.
While Kate has always been passionate about championing women to succeed, running a menopause-specific life coaching business wasn’t something she’d predicted doing.
Her previous career was in education, working as a teacher and senior leader, alongside raising her family. She loved her job, was passionate about the sector, and felt as though she’d struck a good balance as a working mum.
The first signs of the perimenopause struck around the time her son was moving away to start university, creating a perfect storm of emotional upheaval.
Kate explained:
I was experiencing very strange physical and mental symptoms that I’d never felt before. I felt at odds with my usual self, an ambitious go-getter who found her job very engaging.
I had to self-diagnose and do my own research because there was a real lack of information out there. Even then, I was too embarrassed to explain to my employer what I was going through.
Understanding and conversation around the menopause can be limited
No longer feeling professionally or personally fulfilled, Kate described having to embark on a ‘tough voyage of self-discovery’ to work out what the next stage of her life would look like.
She decided that she could use her own struggle with the menopause for good, and help other women adapt and thrive through open conversation, equipping them with transformational coping mechanisms.
After gaining qualifications in Life Coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and becoming a licensed menopause champion, Kate established Thrive, and began to work to change the lives of women in the menopause almost immediately.
She said:
I have women come to me completely and utterly bewildered about the sudden physical and emotional challenges they are facing.
They can be low, anxious and overwhelmed and seriously questioning what their purpose is in life now.
My aim is to give them the knowledge to understand what they’re going through, and the tools to work out solutions.
I offer customised programmes based on the needs of the individual – and many say they wish they’d reached out sooner.
Kate offers all prospective clients a free 30 minute discovery call, in which she can explain the coaching process fully, and suggest which programme would be the best fit.
Currently, Thrive offers three programmes of varying lengths – Meno-gise, Realign in Perimenopause and Thrive in Perimenopause.
Every programme offers a bespoke, one-to-one approach, with the two longer packages offering additional benefits such as email and WhatsApp support throughout the week.
Investment starts from £50 for a one hour Menogise, with the 90 day Thrive in Perimenopause Programme costing £900.

Her customised workshops are designed to help those employers keen to promote menopause wellness in the workplace, by supporting their staff to have an increased knowledge and understanding whilst also coaching any members of the team determined to transform their lives in menopause.
Full details of each programme can be found on Kate's website, Thrive Life Coaching by Kate Hodson.
She encourages those who are curious to find out more to set up a call and find out how she can help.
She added:
Women don’t have to struggle through the menopause. In fact it can be the start of an exciting and empowering new chapter of life.
They need to know that it’s okay to put themselves first, and not feel guilty about doing something for themselves.
I often say, there’s no menopause, only your menostart.
