Three men were arrested after a police chase culminated in a wooded area of Harrogate last night (December 3).

North Yorkshire Police today said officers were alerted to a vehicle, which they believed had a wanted person inside, driving towards Harrogate at 7.30pm.

Officers spotted the car travelling at speed on John Metcalf Way before setting up a stinger in Starbeck.

Today’s statement added:

A stinger site was set up in Starbeck where officers successfully stung its tyres, but it continued along the High Street.

A short pursuit commenced at speed as it began to overtake members of the public whilst travelling on the wrong side of the road before it entered Hookstone Wood road car park.

The car deviated off the road into woodland and slowly hit a tree before finally coming to a stop.

Police said two passengers were arrested in the vehicle but the third ran into the wooded area. He was later found in the grounds of St John Fisher School.

A total of £505 in cash was found during a search of the vehicle.

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for the police; dangerous driving; driving whilst disqualified; theft of a vehicle and being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.

Another 18-year-old and a 19-year-old were both arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

All three remain in police custody, officers said.

The police statement added:

Our sights are firmly focused on intercepting those who think that it’s acceptable to use our road network for criminality, including the distribution of drugs and taking other people’s property.

As usual, we will be back out in force this afternoon and tonight across the 6,000 miles of roads, relentlessly looking to disrupt criminal activity.
