A new Turkish brunch and meze bar has joined the expanding cluster of independent food and drink businesses at the Skipton Road end of King’s Road in Harrogate.
Kismet launched on Sunday in the small premises previously occupied by street art café Salt N Sugar.
Its menu is based on the concept of sharing platters and is aiming for "quality rather than quantity", according to owner Barish Gurler. It features contemporary meze dishes for brunch and lunch, mainly inspired by Turkish cuisine. There will be vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options too.
Mr Gurler ran the health food concept café at Harrogate yoga and pilates studio Ebru Evrim for a year before launching Kismet. He was previously the sous chef at small plates restaurant The Black Market in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
He is running his new venture on King’s Road with his wife and other members of his family. He said:
I like the neighbourhood; it’s a great location to build up a nice restaurant. We've had a really good response since opening and people have been very supportive.
Our menu is going for quality rather than quantity. We are using good, quality ingredients, locally sourced where possible.
The area of King's Road near Skipton Road is already home to restaurant / bar Lilypad, coffee shops Pink Door and Caffé Mamma Amelia, and the Good Taste Oriental Store & Café which opened in April.
Kismet is next door to the former Regal Fruiterers shop, which is currently being turned into a new pizzeria called Stefano’s, due to open soon.
It is open from 9.30am to 3pm but Mr Gurler is hoping to also serve food, wine and cocktails between 5.30pm and 9pm Wednesday to Saturday once an alcohol licence is granted.
