North Yorkshire Police today reported two separate assaults in Knaresborough last night (Saturday, February 24).

Officers said the first assault happened outside a pub, between 9.30 and 10pm, when a woman was “hit in the face” by a male.

Police are now trying to identify the male and are appealing for witnesses. The force said:

“A female was out socialising in a local pub when an unknown male has started using verbals and throwing his arms about whilst in the pub.
“As the female left, she was hit the face by this male and as a result the Police would like to identify him and speak to him.
“The male was described as white, blonde hair, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.”

If you witnessed this incident or recognise the description of the male, you can contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.

Police officer assaulted

Officers said the other assault occurred following anti-social behaviour from a group of youths in the town centre.

In a statement, police said they knew who the youths were, but are appealing for witnesses or footage of the incident. It added:

“A large group of youths were out and about in Knaresborough town centre, unfortunately a small minority decided to cause anti-social behaviour due to being under the influence of alcohol.
“Whilst police officers and PCSOs were dealing with this group and associated incidents a police officer was assaulted.”

Police said one person was arrested following the assault and the others, who were taken home by officers, will be “spoken to about their behaviour”.

You can contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 to pass on information or footage.
