Unexploded Second World War bomb detonated near Ripon
An unexploded World War Two bomb was detonated near Ripon yesterday.
The device was found in the River Ure over the weekend between Bishop Monkton and the Newby Hall estate.
North Yorkshire Police said in a statement that the device was “not deemed to be any immediate risk”.
The force said the Royal Navy were drafted in and specialist divers detonated the bomb yesterday afternoon (March 26).
A police statement added:
Police, Navy and a range of other organisations were involved in making the area safe, and managing any potential risk to local wildlife and the river.
A police cordon that was in place around the area is now lifted and the section of the River Ure is open to boats.
