Planning permission has been granted to convert Hampsthwaite Methodist Church for residential use.
As the Stray Ferret reported two years ago, the Edwardian church on Hollins Lane was put up for sale in 2023 with an asking price just £175,000.
According to a planning report prepared by North Yorkshire Council, it received a good deal of interest early on, from people wanting to convert it into a yoga studio, an artist's studio, offices, a children's nursery, a recording studio and rehearsal rooms, but the relevant costs to convert the spaces were deemed unviable.
It is not known how much the church was eventually sold for, but the buyer now wants to repurpose it as a single dwelling.
According to plans submitted as part of the planning application, the house – as it will be following its conversion – will have on the ground floor a large open-plan living room and kitchen, utility room, boot room, office and bedroom with en suite bathroom.
Upstairs, there will be a bathroom, three more bedrooms and a large internal roof garden.
There's also a small garden, and the small basement will be used as a garden and bike store.
Hampsthwaite Methodist Church was built in 1904 in the perpendicular Gothic style. A village landmark, it provided a place of worship for local people for over a hundred years until it closed in 2021.
