A small village school has joined one of the area's biggest trusts, the Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust.
Sharow Church of England Primary School and Nursery became part of the trust as of November 1, meaning that it will now benefit from collaboration and shared expertise across a wider group of schools.
It means that rather than being run independently by its own governing body and local authority, the school becomes part of the trust.
As part of Yorkshire Causeway, Sharow will have access to trust-wide expertise in school improvement, SEND and inclusion, safeguarding, governance, finance, HR and more.
The individual school will retain a level of control, with school leaders able to make decisions appropriate to their pupils, staff and communities where possible.
Yorkshire Causeway's current model states that schools remain rooted in their communities, retaining their unique identity, history, and community connections.
Sharow offers children opportunities well beyond the classroom. Its extensive outdoor environment includes a large playing field, all-weather track, Peace Garden, two playgrounds and a dedicated Forest School area.
Jacqui Palmer, headteacher of Sharow CE Primary School and Nursery, said:
This is an exciting next chapter for Sharow. Our vision to ‘flourish together’, our Christian character, and our relationships with children, families, and the community remain at the heart of who we are.
Joining Yorkshire Causeway gives us the opportunity to build on those foundations, work collaboratively with colleagues across other schools and access wider expertise and professional learning.
Justin Waters, chief operating officer of Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, added:
Joining a trust should strengthen a school’s capacity without taking away what makes it distinctive. At Sharow, we work alongside school leaders and colleagues, providing the expertise, strong systems, and practical support that let them spend more time and energy on what matters most: education and opportunity for every child.
The Trust currently comprises 12 others schools located around Harrogate, Ripon and Skipton, including St Aiden's, Richard Taylor, Masham, Hampsthwaite and Oatlands.
