Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver has said that if a team like Liverpool can lose four matches in a row, “Harrogate Town can too”.

The Sulphurites lost their fourth game in a row today (October 25) in a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to last-placed Newport County.

Before today, despite winning two of their last three games, Newport were rock bottom of League Two, having only picked up eight points from their first 13 games.

But Simon Weaver’s side made them look unstoppable today as they carved through the Town defence time and time again.

Had it not been for a few good Mark Oxley saves, the Exiles could have left North Yorkshire having scored five.

Despite making several changes to his starting lineup today, the Harrogate boss insisted that he had not underestimated Newport.

In an interview with the Stray Ferret today, which you can watch below, he said:

How can you become complacent as a manager when you lose three on the bounce?

Harrogate now sit only three points ahead of Newport in League Two, who remain in last place after today’s win.

Defensive errors have been the story of Harrogate’s October, with away defeats at Fleetwood and Colchester as prime examples.

Weaver said that errors of judgment were becoming “a habit," but he was insistent that his side can turn their fortunes around.
