Save Rotary Wood campaigners have held two meetings in the last week to formulate plans to oppose Harrogate Spring Water's bid to expand its bottling plant.

The expansion would involve the destruction of 500 trees in a section of the Pinewoods known as Rotary Wood at the back of the company's Harlow Moor Road headquarters.

Harrogate Spring Water has pledged to create a community woodland and replace the trees on a 6:1 ratio to mitigate for the loss. It also says the plans will create 50 jobs.

Richard Hall, managing director of Harrogate Spring Water, has described the application as a "best-in-class plan to deliver business growth while minimising environmental impact".

But campaigners oppose the loss of woodland and are trying to rally support before North Yorkshire Council's current deadline for submitting comments of November 15.
