Woman rescued after falling into river in Nidderdale
Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association all came to the rescue on Monday (June 29), when a woman was hurt falling into a river in Nidderdale.
The 53-year-old walker was out of the water by the time the emergency services arrived, but needed medical attention and a trip to hospital after sustaining wrist and ankle injuries.
The ambulance service called in fell rescue volunteers, who stretchered the woman out of woodland near Wilsill.
The UWFRA volunteers carried the woman along narrow paths and over uneven ground to waiting medical responders.
In a social media post, Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association said:
With difficult access and a stretcher evacuation required, Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also tasked. After treatment at the scene, our team transferred the casualty onto a stretcher and carried her across a narrow bridge to the waiting road ambulance.
Another great example of multi-agency teamwork, with everyone working together to get the casualty safely to definitive care. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
