The chief executive of Yorkshire Agricultural Society, Allister Nixon, has stepped down.
The society is a farming charity that organises the annual Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate.
In a statement issued this morning (October 13), the society said Mr Nixon was departing from his role after a period of absence due to health issues.
It said Mr Nixon, who joined the charity in 2022, oversaw the roll out of the society’s values, a rebrand of the society and its family of businesses as well as the refurbishment of Fodder.
He said:
My recent health issues have given me cause and opportunity for much reflection, and I have decided that this is the right time for me to move on to my next chapter.
It has been a real privilege to lead this incredible organisation and work alongside such a dedicated team. We do amazing things here, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together during my tenure. I wish the organisation and everyone in it continued success.
The society’s board of trustees, led by chairman Paul Russell, will oversee the leadership transition.
The running of the charity will be overseen by society manager, David Tite, with the commercial venues run by commercial director, Graham Thompson, supported by the senior management team.
Paul Russell, chair of the trustees, said:
We would like to thank Allister for his commitment over the last four years and wish him well with his recovery and next chapter.
The board is confident that David and Graham, supported by trustees and the senior management team will lead the charity successfully as the team prepare for a busy Christmas season ahead.
