One of Ripon's most popular stores will be temporarily shutting its doors next week following a month-long 'closing down sale'

But for those who haven't read the small print on the signs saying 'everything must go' there's no need for panic, as Yorkshire Trading will be reopening next month.

As the store on the corner of Moss's Arcade and Market Place East prepares to shut for a major refurbishment, around the corner in Fishergate, value fashion retailer Peacocks is preparing to leap into action on February 29.

The Peacocks store will open on February 29

It comes as a significant addition to the Ripon high street, filling a large void left by M&Co, after the Scottish-headquartered retailer went into administration in December 2022.

Investing in Ripon

These are upbeat times for the retail and leisure sector in Ripon, with Halls — the city's only department store — currently undergoing  a major refurbishment and reconfiguration that will create space for up to seven independents to open in Ripon.

In November, outdoor fashion and equipment retailer Trespass opened in the former Barclays Bank premises in Market Place East and in September the Portly Pig bottle shop and taproom welcomed its first customers in Kirkgate.

Further down the prime retail street, all-terrain cycle trader Bikemonger moved to take a large unit that became vacant when a carpet retailer relocated.
