Explore a Neolithic site

The Thornborough Henges near Ripon are an ancient monument complex of three giant, circular earthworks that, despite stretching over a mile, are easy to miss if you don't know they're there.

Built more than 4,000 years ago, these vast henges are thought to have been used for ceremonial or ritual gatherings. Their scale is striking – each circle is roughly the size of several football pitches – and their alignment suggests careful planning, possibly linked to the landscape or even the stars.

The Northern Henge is open to the public and can be toured without a guide, but Friday's guided tour by English Heritage volunteers is a great opportunity to discover the secrets of the South Henge, and to learn more about the history and significance of the site.

Free but booking required, 11am, April 17, Thornborough Henges, New Lane, West Tanfield, DL8 2RD. Not suitable for wheelchairs, and there are no toilets on site.

Harrogate will be looking to bounce back and pick up valuable points as they continue their battle near the bottom of the table, while Colchester arrive in stronger form and aiming to push further up the league.

With both sides having had mixed results this season, the match promises to be competitive, and Harrogate will hope their home support can give them an edge in what could be a crucial game for their survival hopes.

Various priced ticket options available, 3pm, April 18, The Exercise Stadium, Wetherby Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG2 7SA.
