This Saturday car lovers visting Harrogate will see a rare sight – vehicles made at the very dawn of motoring alongside the very latest supercars with cutting-edge technology.

The pre-war cars will line Harrogate’s Montpellier Hill and Montpellier Square, while the supercars will be parked in front of The Yorkshire Hotel.

The early cars hark back to the Victorian age and will feature a pedal-operated 1885 Rudge Quadricycle, an 1888 Truchetet Steam Car that was coal-fired. Some were regarded as the supercars of their era.

There will be 50 veteran cars made before 1905, as well as six other steam cars in total.

Some of the cars on show – so old they are classed as antiques rather than classic – have taken part in the famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

The drivers of the cars and crew will also be dressed in period outfits.

The cars in Harrogate will also go on a Yorkshire tour that will take them through the Dales ... slowly.

Rally organiser of the Veteran Car Tour of Yorkshire 2024, Daniel Ward, said the event harks back to the past:

Motor cars were an early feature in Harrogate – the 1,000 Mile Trial which took place in 1900 came through the centre of Harrogate with the cars passing in front of Bettys.

Meanwhile the 20 supercars organised by Apollo Capital Luxury and Supercar Finance will be shown outside The Yorkshire Hotel and will vary in price from £250,000 up to circa £2m.

Expect to see models including Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini.

Andy King, CEO of Apollo Capital said:

This event that combines pre-war and luxury cars in the centre of Harrogate, provides a great contrast of cars of historical significance with modern-day models.

Taking place from approximately 10am to 3pm on Saturday June 22, there’s also set to be a grand depart at 3pm.

Free to attend, the show will make a fun day out for all the family, especially as the weather is set to be fine and dry.

That'll be good news too for those in the open antiques cars.

If the event proves successful the organisers wish to build on it next year and make it an annual motoring fixture for Harrogate.
