Located at 9 Scarcroft Road in York, Flori may be small, but it is a highly sought-after pastry shop that sells a delicious selection of pastries and breads.

You don’t have to step inside the bakery to understand its acclaim, as you’ll be able to spot the queue that often snakes out of the door and down the street.

It was opened by Lotte Rodgers and is a family-inspired bakery where you can enjoy beautiful bakes such as their signature Pastel de Nata, a custard tart sprinkled with cinnamon.

Lotte learnt her skills while working in an independent bakery in Libson and when she returned home, what started out as skateboard deliveries during lockdown became an adored bakery that, according to her instagram, was ‘inspired by the heartwarming kitchen of my childhood and the people I love.’

The bakery is open Thursday to Sunday 7.30am-3pm.

Their full range of donuts, breads and pastries include vegetarian and vegan friendly options, all made from locally sourced products.

They are not shy when it comes to their toppings- you'll find cupcakes covered in your favorite flavoured chocolates, and huge cream cakes that are sure to fill you up.

Their savoury selections span across the back wall with even more pastries and pies nestled at the front among the rest of their sweeter selection.

The bakery is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 5pm.

Sourdough specialist Paul Cosgriff recognized his passion for baking bread in lockdown and soon opened Cosgriff & Son’s bakery at 14 Town Street in York.

At Cosgriff & Son’s, you can enjoy unique pastries all made with a sourdough starter such as a hazelnut and espresso pan au chocolat, or a sourdough plain Swisse filled with milk chocolate. If you’re longing for something savory and perhaps a bit more filling, they offer a selection of sandwiches that change weekly.

Most importantly, their selection of sourdough is as fresh as you can get, as their loafs are baked in-house every day.

As a family-run bakery, its sole focus is centered around just that- creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for everybody to enjoy a chat and some delicious food.

The bakery is open Thursday to Sunday from 7.30-3pm.
