A London bakery chain has confirmed it is opening a store in Harrogate.
The Stray Ferret this week reported Gail’s was advertising for Harrogate staff and was expected to open on James Street.
Other media outlets reported the bakery would be opening in Knaresborough. However, in a statement this afternoon (April 24) Gail’s confirmed it is indeed launching in Harrogate.
A company spokesperson said:
Gail's is excited to confirm it is opening a new bakery in Harrogate later this year. The opening will bring Gail's craft baking to the community, including creating a number of craft baking, barista, and management roles.
We will also be donating surplus baked goods through our Neighbourly partnerships. This is part of our ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities we serve and improving access to quality food and drink on the high-street.

'Store closing down' posters were put up in Russell & Bromley's window in January.
Gail’s remained tight-lipped on the exact location in Harrogate, but sources have told the Stray Ferret the new bakery will replace Russell and Bromley on James Street, which in January announced it would be shutting its doors.
If this happens, Gail’s would provide stiff competition for Prêt à Manger, just opposite.
Gail’s, which has its headquarters in Camden, has more than 180 branches, mainly across London and the South East, and plans to open a further 40 over the coming months.
Although it has several shops around Greater Manchester and Merseyside, this will be the company’s first branch in Yorkshire.
No further information, including when Gail’s Harrogate will open, has been released at this stage.
