The Harrogate & District Allotment Federation will be holding its 63rd Annual Allotment Show in the Sun Pavilion in Valley Gardens on Sunday August 18.
The event provides allotment plot holders from across Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge with the opportunity to showcase their gardening achievements, which range from prize fruit and vegetables to beautiful flowers; and to exhibit their perfect baking and preserves made from home grown produce.
This year’s Show Schedule will include the Heaviest Onion, the Longest Runner Bean, an Arrangement in a Basket on a Parisian Olympic theme, Largest Sunflower Head, Four Olympic Cupcakes and, in the children’s classes, a Gingerbread Eiffel Tower and a Tree Grown from a Seed. Judging will take place from 10am-12noon after which the Sun Pavilion will be open so you can view the exhibits and results.
The allotment sites will also be producing ‘Over the Rainbow’ arrangements to include flowers, fruit and vegetables for this year’s Allotment Competition, which will be judged by Nick Smith, Director of the Harrogate Flower Shows.

The NiddArt Trail is taking place from August 16 to 26.
It will showcase the diverse skills of artists, craftspeople and makers in and around the communities of Nidderdale and its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The venue-based trail will display the work of artists, artisans, photographers, workshops, galleries, paintings, ceramics, jewellery, photography, prints, textiles, glass and wood.
There is also an online gallery of the work of artists and craftspeople on the trail and other local people displaying online only.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company is putting on a production of Little Women in Knaresborough Castle Grounds on Saturday.
Written by Louisa May Alcott, it features a coming-of-age story where Jo March and her sisters Meg, Amy, and Beth are determined to pursue their own paths in life, but though their dreams may be different, their family ties remain as true as ever.
An uplifting and heartfelt tale of the March sisters’ journey into adulthood and all the trials and triumphs that come with it, it also features a beautiful musical score.
Children aged five to 16 years old £13.20, adults £22, gates open at 6pm with the show starting at 7pm, August 17, Knaresborough Castle, HG5 8AS.

Feva in Knaresborough is continuing this week.
The annual arts festival which hosts a range of free and paid-for events such as live music, spoken word and art exhibitions, is taking place until August 18.
First held in 1996, it’s one of the town’s main events of the year, with many shops decorated in promotional pink as part of a window competition organised by Knaresborough and District Chamber.
Picnic in the Park, a free afternoon event featuring bands and DJs, is taking place on Saturday August 17, and this year’s line-up includes DJ Trev, Crafted in Rock, The Orb House Band, The Lowells, The Robbie Miller Band, Rory Hoy and Hot Sauce.
