Voters will head to the polls today for the first ever Harrogate Town Council election.

The creation of the town council follows the abolition of Harrogate Borough Council in 2023.

One councillor will be elected in each of 19 wards today.

Labour, Conservatives, Reform UK, Green Party and the Liberal Democrats have all put forward candidates. Two independents are also standing.

You can find a full list of those standing for election here.

Councillors elected will serve a term of two years. Elections will be held again in 2027 for a four-year term to align with elections for North Yorkshire Council and all other parish councils.

Polls are open from 7am until 10pm. Voters must take photo ID.

A declaration of results will be held at Harrogate Convention Centre tomorrow (May 2).

The Stray Ferret will provide comprehensive live coverage of the results plus analysis for subscribers.
