See the bluebells of Nidderdale

Get out into the great outdoors on this Bluebell Explorer Challenge walk, organised by Yorkshire Hiking Adventures.

The hike will involve walking on natural trails with varied terrain, including inclines and wooded areas, and is especially for those who are experienced hikers, as it’s a 20-mile loop.

Starting in Hampsthwaite, you’ll walk along the River Nidd then onto Brimham Rocks and Ripley Castle, and on it you’ll see the springtime sights, including the beautiful bluebells of Nidderdale.

£5 plus booking fee, 7.45am-5pm, May 3, starting at Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall, Hollins Lane, Harrogate, HG3 2EJ.

Head to a beer festival

A Knaresborough beer festival returns to the town this weekend to raise money for charity.

The Henshaws Beer Fest, at the Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, will offer food, drink and live music. It will sell beers, ciders, wines and gins by local breweries as well as street food.

There will be two family-friendly daytime sessions and an adult-only Saturday evening party.

The festival is held annually in aid of Henshaws, a charity that supports people with sight loss and disabilities in the north of England. Read more about the event here.

From £16, various times; check the website for details, May 3-4, Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, 50 Bond End, Knaresborough, HG5 9AL.

Attend a family-friendly festival

‘Biltonbury’, the indoor family music festival, returns this year.

Taking place across Saturday and Sunday at Bilton Club in Harrogate, both day and weekend tickets are available to purchase.

As well as four music acts each day (including Drop Leg Steppers, above, who will be playing on the Saturday), there will also be outdoor stalls, food and rides.

From £7, doors open at 2.30pm on May 3 and 1.30pm on May 4, Bilton Club, Skipton Road, Harrogate, HG1 4LL.

Listen to a live performance

This Friday, Yorkshire-based songwriter The Howl & The Hum (Sam Griffiths) is performing an exclusive intimate solo set for the first time in Harrogate, at Rooster's Taproom, following the release of his second album, Same Mistake Twice.

The 12 songs on his new album follow the tumultuous years that include the breakup of his band, the global pandemic and the reckoning with his future in music, and how Griffiths finds solace in the imperfections that make us all human, and how sometimes, we all have to make the same mistake twice.

The evening show has sold out, and so due to popular demand, the Taproom is holding a matinee show that's open to all ages.

From £11.55, 4pm-6pm, May 2, Rooster's Brewing Co. Taproom, Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate, HG2 8QT.

Go to an artisan market

This bank holiday weekend, Little Bird Made markets will be in both Knaresborough and Harrogate.

On Saturday, May 3, the market will be held in Knaresborough Castle grounds from 10am to 3pm, and also from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, May 4, and Monday, May 5, at Harrogate's Valley Gardens.

The markets are an opportunity to buy unique and handcrafted gifts, and there will also be street food vendors so you can grab a bite to eat. The markets are also dog-friendly so your dog can enjoy the day out too.
