The 2024 Nidderdale Walk

The Nidderdale Walk has broken the £1 million barrier for the amount raised for charity.

A total of 449 walkers and runners took part in this year’s 30th anniversary event on March 19.

They raised at least £31,500, bringing the overall total since 1994 past the £1 million mark.

The walk begins in Pateley Bridge and heads into upper Nidderdale.

Walkers this year could choose one of six routes ranging between 4 to 26 miles, including a new 18-mile hike.

The routes passed through Wath, Ramsgill, Lofthouse, Gouthwaite, Fountains Earth Moor, and Scar House Reservoir.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Harrogate, the walk committee told the Stray Ferret before this year's event that it aimed to achieve the £1 million milestone this year.

Fifty charities were supported by walkers and 15 charities will receive donations from the rotary club because they had 10 or more adult supporters taking part.

Charles Dickinson, Nidderdale Walk administrator, said:

Some charities let us know how much they have been given by their supporters. We are always looking to raise the number of those taking part and help them to raise more money for their charities.

We have had many emails and posts on Facebook thanking us for providing the event, which enables so much money to be raised.

The next walk will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025. For more information click here.
