A new outdoor retailer looks set to take over an old one in Harrogate.

George Fisher, a Keswick-based outdoor equipment business, is to take over the unit formerly occupied by Blacks on Station Parade.

George Fisher is part of the Tiso Group, which anchors JD Sports’ specialist outdoor division, and first opened in Cumbria in the 1950s.

It sells a wide range of clothing and equipment for different outdoor activities.

Although the application has not yet been approved, a spokesperson for George Fisher told the Stray Ferret the company hopes the Harrogate store will be open next month.

They added:

“As a historic town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Harrogate has a local demographic we believe will appreciate the unique George Fisher proposition of quality and premium branded outdoor products.
“George Fisher has an unrivalled reputation for exceptional service, this new store will offer the same specialist advice in an exciting new environment with a carefully curated selection of brands not previously available locally.”

The Harrogate branch would be the company's second in the UK, alongside its flagship Keswick site.

The move comes after what appeared to be several months of closing down sales at Blacks.

The business, which was bought by JD Sports after going into administration in 2012, also stocks a range of outdoor equipment.

The Stray Ferret contacted Blacks for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
